Client: Seattle Pacific University
Located in a quiet north Queen Anne residential neighborhood, Seattle Pacific University’s 40-acre campus borders the Lake Washington Ship Canal and boasts majestic trees, open lawns, beautiful gardens, and views of Mt. Rainier. 5th Avenue is currently an underutilized pedestrian thoroughfare on campus. Fazio Associates was asked by the university to develop a concept that would activate 5th Avenue as a corridor for pedestrian gathering, circulation and a place ‘to be seen’. The final design includes a series of tiered seat walls with an integrated water feature. The space is designed to accommodate multi-use programs and could be used as an amphitheater or outdoor classroom. The design also reduces the amount of hardscape from existing conditions, to provide the campus additional open-space that complements the Great Lawn at the historic Tiffany Loop.
