The Rivet is located at the NW corner of Mercer Ave. and Minor Ave N. in the very eclectic Cascade neighborhood in close vicinity to the Cascade neighborhood P-Patch, South Lake Union and the REI flagship store. The project design accommodates and celebrates the ‘urban backyard’ experience for its residents and the neighborhood context. The Rivet is a 6-story mixed-use building that achieved a LEED Silver rating, with approximately 131 residential units, and 2 levels of underground parking.
Fazio Associates designed an outdoor east-facing landscaped courtyard over the lid of the underground parking. This 3rd level terrace includes private patios, with 8” greenroof meadow and a Bioretention Planter of approximately 320 SF to help define spaces. The bioretention planter helps minimize stormwater treatment requirements and reduce construction costs on the project.
Fazio Associates also designed the roof-deck and outdoor amenity spaces. The roof-deck includes a covered area to socialize and BBQ, a raised firepit with lounge seating, a ping-pong table, various private and semi-private seating areas, raised planters with drought-tolerant plantings for low maintenance, trough planters that are designated for Community Garden/Vegetable Cultivation for residents, over 2,800 SF of greenroof areas to help define the spaces, along with an 1,800 SF Pet Park that completes the amenity package for residents while reinforcing the ‘urban backyard’ concept of the project goal.
